What matters most: Beer & Tuition
As the 2009 Alabama Legislative Session heads closer to the finish line, there are a few things that should be on the radar of all UAB students: Beer and Tuition.
Free The Hops, a grass-roots non-profit organization, seeks to overturn the Prohibition-era alcohol laws that prevent beer over 6% alcohol content from being sold in the state.
As usual, the senate is languishing and not getting to the bills that need to be covered. The good folks at Free The Hops want everyone to contact their senators. You can find out how to here: http://www.freethehops.org/blog/2009/04/contact-your-senator-today/
Another issue of concern to all students is funding for higher education. If you’ve been around me for more than 10 minutes, you’ve heard me ranting and raving about this. The Alabama Higher Education Partnership just launched a new website that will keep you up to date on all of the funding related goings on in Montgomery.
If you want to make sure UAB gets its fair cut of funding from the state, contact your represenatives immediately! This website makes it simple: http://uspeakup.org/get-started/
(And don’t forget to sign up for the NAS Dollars for Scholars 5k/10k on Friday! I’ll be the one huffing and puffing at the finish line!)
