Umoja: New Student Welcome Program

The University Programs Council’s Black Student Awareness Committee, in collaboration with the Black Graduate Student Association, presents Umoja.  Umoja (Swahili for “unity”) is the traditional African American celebration to welcome students, faculty, and staff to UAB.  Umoja aims to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.  Umoja will be Tuesday, August 23 at 7 PM in the Hill University Center Great Hall.

The annual event features many prominent speakers from UAB and the surrounding community including: UAB President Dr. Carol Garrison and Vice President of Equity and Diversity Dr. Louis Dale.  This event is a wonderful opportunity to meet and network with fellow students and administration.
