UAB Pounds the Bulldogs. Wins Both Games 17-7, 9-2.

Alright loyal iloveuab.com readers I apologize for my lack of posts recently involving sports and UAB I’ve been overrun with the overrated phenomenon we call “homework” (bleh).
BUT
I am back and ready to bring you the DL on what’s happening with UAB, particularly UAB Baseball.
In the past month UAB has had its up and it has had its down but, as we stand right now UAB is on a 5 1/2 (I’ll explain in a sec) win streak. The past few games for the Blazers have looked something like this…
Ownage
Complete and utter ownage. If that doesn’t give a clear enough depiction of what UAB has been doing to its opponents the past few games maybe the scores will speak for themselves…

3/25 UAB vs. Alabama 2-1 *Game stopped in 6th inning due to rain; will be continued at a later date (see I told you I’d explain the 1/2)
3/27 UAB vs. Savannah State 11-5
3/28 UAB vs. Savannah State 20-2
3/29 UAB vs. Savannah State 8-3
3/31 UAB vs. Samford 17-7
4/1 UAB vs. Samford 9-2

So in short our Blazers baseball squad is ON FIRE!!!
On top of the squad doing well as a whole UAB has three players in the top 10 nationally in different categories…

1st off we have Senior outfielder Brint Hardy. Hardy is currently ranked 2nd in the nation in most bases stolen. This kid is so fast that you blink after he hits the ball and before you know it he’s walking over home plate from the third base line.
Secondly we have Junior Shortstop Jonathan Merritt. Merritt is currently 4th in the nation in doubles during the season. So don’t be surprised when he gets on first base and looks confused because he’s not all that used to being stuck on it.
Thirdly we have Junior Catcher Digger Towe Towe is currently ranked 7th in the nation in RBIs (Runs Batted In for those who aren’t baseball savvy).
On top of these three guys we have many many more Blazers who are currently ranking in the top 20s and 30s of the national polls.

On top of having some clutch/dominate players things are about to get interesting for the Blazers (who are currently 16-10).
This weekend the Blazers host the #16th ranked East Carolina Pirates at home. The game will be a determining factor in how the rest of the Blazers season is going to go.
The times for the games are as follows-
Friday 4/3-UAB vs. ECU 7:00pm
Saturday 4/4- UAB vs. ECU 2:00pm
Sunday 4/5-UAB vs. ECU 11:00am
All home games are played on-campus at Young Memorial Field right off of I-65.
For the game Friday night Gang Green will be out with a tailgate at 6:45 with Free Food, Drinks and Giveaways so come out and grab some free grub and stuff before you go out for the night!
Keep watch on iloveuab.com for more info on the games as they come and be looking for an EXCLUSIVE iloveuab.com interview with Baseball Head Coach Brian Shoop!!!
