I have loved my college career, I really have. However, if I had to single out the one thing that I didn’t like – it would be the ridiculous amount of parking tickets that I received during the last 5 years(don’t hate). During this time I have schemed up many different ideas to “fake out” the parking enforcement people. For awhile the ol’ “put a ticket that you have already recieved BACK onto your car to make them think they already ticketed you trick”, but they figured that one out back in 2007.

Then I realized I could just schedule all my classes in the evening and then when I didn’t buy a parking pass it wouldn’t matter because I would be parking after the ticket people got off work – HA! This plan works great as long as you don’t have to come to campus early, which for me was a neccesity. Damn, they STILL got me.

The last trick, and possibly the meanest one of all (and it’s probably illegal), is to take the ticket you got and put it on someone else’s car in hopes they will pay it. Dirty, I know! (Don’t do this!)

After all the time, money and effort I put into avoiding/tricking the parking people, I might as well have bought a parking pass every year. But hey, you can’t blame me for trying – those passes are 100 bucks!

Wow – I really got off track there. What I was trying to tell you about was the UAB Parking Amnesty Event (Sponsored & Lobbied for by your USGA) that is going to take place this Friday. All you’ve got to do is bring your UAB Parking Citation (one ticket up to $15) and five (5) canned goods or other non-perishable item down to the Campus Green this Friday, March 26th between 9am and 3pm. When you get there you can scowl angrily (I kid, I kid) at the UAB Parking people who will then credit your account for the $15 they previously charged to it. The exact location of the event is on 10th Ave. South and 16th Street.

This program will benefit local Birmingham relief efforts.
