UAB Falls to UTEP in Double-Overtime

Whew…really all I can say is whew. That game Saturday night was insane. In case you were one of the 5 people who wasn’t at the game Saturday night then you missed out on one of UAB’s most exciting games yet this season.

In front of a sellout crowd of 8,533 the Blazers fought their way back from 9 down in the 1st half to tie the game. The game was by far one of the most physical games I have seen since being a student at UAB. The game had everything from double technical fouls, to Kenneth Cooper getting a concussion to the biggest play of the night, Aaron Johnson getting a broken nose and leaving the game.

Despite fighting the entire game the loss of Aaron Johnson, added with foul trouble and poor shooting proved too costly in the end and the Blazers fell in the 2nd overtime 74-65.

Coop led the Blazers with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Derrick Carter led UTEP with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

I know like me, most everyone left the arena upset the Blazers lost but guess what fellow Blazers?

WE ARE 18-3

The Blazers are still in the top 30 (27th actually and still definitely in the running for 1st place in CUSA.

If you’ll notice I put this post under the category of Birmingham along with UAB.
Why?

If you were at the game Saturday than you understand. UAB is doing something special, something that the entire city can get behind.

SO UAB plays Marshall NEXT Saturday 2/13 at 2pm. We need to have a great turnout for this game and keep supporting our winning team. In between now and then UAB plays Memphis and Rice and regardless of what the result of those games are we need to have a great turnout.
Besides lets be honest games right now are one of the most fun things you can do in Birmingham. UAB is the hottest ticket in the state!

So Go Blazers and see everyone next Saturday!
