UAB Downs #4th Ranked Rice Finishs Strong at C-USA Tourney
Alright children so it’s that time of the year again. The time of the year where we must bid our Blazers goodbye for a while and wait patiently for football season to kick off in the Fall (103 Days, 5 hours, 14 min, 20 sec as I write this…don’t ask).
But before we shuffle our feet and tighten our buttholes in anticipation for next year lets revisit how the UAB baseball team finished their season up.
First off UAB downed the #4th ranked team in the nation (The Rice University Owls) TWICE thus wrecking the Owls 13 straight conference wins against C-USA opponents. The wins also put Rice in 2nd place of C-USA and gave the regular season title to East Carolina. This is the first time in well over a decade that the Owls have not won the regular season Conference title.
The series against Rice had the following scores, UAB 7 Rice 5, UAB 6 Rice 10, UAB 15 Rice 12.
Out of the three games though the last one was by far the most interesting.
In the Top of the 6th inning the Blazers were down 9 to 1!!! and came back scoring 14 runs in the last 4 at bats to put them ahead for the win!
Some notables from the game, Brint Hardy stole a single base in the game and finished the game (and season) ranked #1 in stolen bases in all of the NCAA Division 1. Congrats! Digger Towe, Jonathan Merrit, Jamal Austin, pretty much the entire team contributed in some shape in the last four innings to help the Blazers overcome its biggest deficit of the year and defeat the #4 team in the nation.

After the Rice Series UAB headed to beautiful Hattiesberg, Mississippi (pictured above) to participate in the C-USA Baseball tournament. And by beautiful I mean the #1 city you go to for incest, poverty and the overall trailer trash experience.
But despite having to travel to the place where Deliverance was filmed the Blazers were still able to play competitively and make it to day three of the CUSA tournament.
The scores for the Blazers were
Win UAB 8 Houston 3
Loss UAB 1 Rice 8
Loss UAB 1 Houston 4.
Hats off to the Blazers who finished 31-26 this year; a vast improvement over last years disappointing 26-34
Good luck to all the graduating Blazers who are moving on to bigger things in their lives and keep working hard Blazers who are coming back next year. Until the fall Go Blazers and keep supporting YOUR school!

HAHAHAHAH god I love you CJ, funny shit
CJ, I’m glad you pointed out how even backwoods Mississippi is quite advanced. Troy, AL just now figured out how to run water to the ground-level trailers.
At least Hattiesberg isn’t Memphis, but then again, I imagine I could actually feel my IQ drop if I visited Hattiesberg.
Great season and a great article cj. That’s a pretty complex trailer park, kinda impressive in a marry your cousin type of way.
Down Blakeny down
I was making fun of Hattiesberg not Mississippi.
And don’t bring Troy into this. You know the incestual settlement south of us means nothing. haha
