UAB Basketball Announces 09-10 Non-Conference Schedule
Finally some sports news! While football season is right around the a href=”http://iloveuab.com/uab/uab-football-announces-2009-2010-schedule/”>corner. We look a little bit past our beloved Gridiron Blazers to look at what’s going on with our Ballin’ Blazers. This year Coach Mike Davis and the UAB coaching staff have put together a very entertaining non-conference schedule. For those who aren’t too sports savvy our non-conference schedule means these are the teams we will play outside of C-USA. Non-conference teams usually make or break your RPI and your power rankings. If you have a weak schedule you will be ranked very low. If it’s strong, even if you lose some, it will help you climb the rankings ladder. Anyhow let’s get down to it. Our non-conference schedule looks like this-
November 13-15 Kent State’s Hispanic Fund Classic (tournament to kick off the year)
November 17th UAB @ Jacksonville State.
November 21stUAB vs. Georgia.
November 24thUAB vs. Troy.
November 28th UAB vs. Florida A&M.
December 2ndUAB @ Middle Tennessee State.
December 4thUAB vs. East Tennessee State.
December 16thUAB vs. Cincinnati.
December 19thUAB @ South Alabama.
December 22nd UAB vs. BUTLER.
December 30th UAB @ Virginia.
January 2ndUAB @ Arkansas.
Obviously when you first look at the schedule you see the powderpuffs (knock on wood) of MTSU, Troy, Florida A&M and Jack State. But aside from those 4 the rest of the schedule is really well put together. Although we don’t know much about our young Blazer squad we do know that playing a powerhouse like Butler at home will only mean good things for our school. I would say the Butler, Cinci and Georgia games are our biggest (non-con) games at home and Virginia and S. Alabama will be our biggest away. This kind of scheduling will hopefully bring a ton of people to Bartow this year (instead of just Memphis) and get the UAB basketball program back on track. Also the ETSU game will be a tribute to a basketball legend and UAB sports program initiator Gene Bartow. The reason for this being Gene’s son Murry Bartow is head coach of ETSU and will be playing Gene’s original brain child.
This year is shaping up to be an exciting one!
However, until November we wish our Blazers a strong off-season and an even stronger regular season.
Once UAB finishes up it’s complete 2009-2010 basketball season iloveuab.com will be sure to be on top of it.
Until then stay classy Birmingham.

It’s gonna be a miracle season for the Blazers, baby!
I see at least one “powderpuff” of Middle Tennessee who thinks UAB is a powderpuff. Blue Raiders win this game hands down.
