The Girl Talk Show Was AWESOME!
Wow, it’s been a good week since I made a post on iloveuab.com. I can’t be letting that happen! Anyway, as I’m sure you are aware, Greg Gillis AKA Girl Talk played at Club 1120 last Friday night. It. Was. Amazing. The Blaze Productions committee did an amazing job of promotion which lead to the show selling out. 1120 was completely packed. The doors opened at 9pm, and from 9pm until the second Girl Talk came on around 11pm, there was a HUGE line stretching about two blocks down 11th Ave.
Once you got inside, the atmosphere was awesome. Everyone was having a good time chilling with friends and dancing to the house music. Around 10:30 Shaudi Fly, a UAB student, came on and warmed the crowd up for Girl Talk. Shaudi Fly’s set was pretty good, kinda short, but still really good. He closed with his hit song “I Don’t Dance”, which I was really happy about…..I love that song….and I don’t dance.
Right after Shaudi Fly went off stage, I ran around and made sure that Gregg Gillis was ready to perform. He was good to go. So at this point I get my shot at my 30 seconds of fame. I hopped onto stage and got to revel in my 30 wonderful seconds of glory. It was great. My Fraternity brothers were chanting my name and the whole crowd was cheering for me (hopefully they weren’t mistaking me for Gregg Gillis lol). Unfortunately, my moment in the lime light was cut short by Girl Talk’s tour manager yelling at me to get off the stage. All I could do was smile.
After I meandered off stage, the real magic happened. All of our work, all those fliers, and all those posters, had finally paid off. Gregg Gillis got on stage and straight tore it up for the next 90 minutes. At one point my girlfriend dragged me down to the floor to dance. We quickly ran back to the little “vip” area because the main floor of the club was literally swaying up and down with all the people dancing, I thought it was going to fall through for sure.
Anyway, there is little more that I can say that can describe how awesome the show was. Thankfully someone put some video up on YouTube, and MCO.com was there taking a ton of pictures. Here ya go:
