Textbook Rentals at UAB
Long time, no post!
As we start gearing up for another good year at UAB, we’ll be bringing you the latest information on events, new services and all of the good news you’d expect from UAB. That said… here’s the latest in a string of cool news from the Undergraduate Student Government Association.
In a groundbreaking move, the UAB Barnes & Noble will be renting textbooks beginning in August. Students can expect to save more than 50% off of the cost of a textbook. Plus, you can even still highlight in the books you rent!
Details are still being worked out, but its still pretty darn cool. All textbooks are due to be returned 10 days after the end of finals. The only downside with this program is you can’t use it for “bundles” that many faculty require, but saving 50% on most of your books is still a good deal, right?
You can find details Here.
Of course, if there are any needs or wants from the students, feel. free to email us at usga@uab.edu

How is this different from selling books back like students have done for decades? The only thing I can think of that might be different/better is if they must take the book back even if the edition changes for the next semester???
I believe it will be better in some cases because instead of paying full price for a book, you pay a smaller retail fee instead of paying the full price for a book. And since you’ll be renting the books, the book places have to take them back but the down side is you won’t get any money back from the return.
This would have been awesome tow semesters again when I bought a book for over $200 and sold it for barely even $30. I could have rented it for around $50(total guess) and not has wasted over a $100 on a book I never really needed in the first place.
