Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival 2009 approaches!
Every now and then, something in Birmingham surprises us and takes our breath away. Last year, the most impressive thing in Birmingham was the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival. I was shocked and impressed with the quality of films and the work displayed.
Lucky for us, Sidewalk Film Festival is back and better than ever. From Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27, you have the chance to catch over 60 of the hottest independent and foreign films.
This year, Sidewalk Film Festival kicks off with what is going to be one of the most fun documentaries this year – Best Worst Movie. Ever hear of Troll 2? It’s awful. God awful. One of those movies that is so bad that you and friends rent it to make fun of it. In fact, Bottletree had a special screening of it a few months ago. The laughter is uncontrollable.
Anyway, Best Worst Movie documents the tragedy that is Troll 2. And of course, one of the coolest things is the start of Best Worst Movie, George Hardy, is a UAB grad!
Still don’t believe me that its awful? Check this out:
From there, Sidewalk explodes into two days of non-stop films. Some highlights (at least the ones I will be watching) -
Dead Snow – Nazis + Zombies = a perfect movie.
Alabama Moon – John Goodman never disappoints.
Etienne - any movie about a boy whose best friend is a hamster will be genius.
The House of the Devil – slasher film! YEAH for trashy horror!
The Dungeon Masters – a documentary about geeks playing Dungeons & Dragons? Flashbacks to high school! I’m in!
Get your tickets here. It’s totally worth getting a weekend pass just to witness all of the brilliance.
