School’s Back! Looking to get Involved?
Alright as someone who’s now in their 5th year at UAB (I know snicker, snicker insert never graduating/vanwilder comment) I can honestly say one of the best decisions of my college career has been to get involved on campus with different student groups every semester.
I’ve been all over the place from Gang Green, to USGA, to Homecoming Committee and can say I’ve met some of my best friends in these organizations. I’m very passionate about UAB and getting involved only fanned my Blazer flame and helped me network myself and meet some awesome, awesome people. Since it’s a new year I figured I’d throw a quick list of organizations out there for anyone interested in getting involved on campus to check out!
Here’s a link to a list of all the student organizations at UAB with links to contact any that might interest you. Here’s some of my personal favs below.List of UAB Student Organizations
Gang Green-my baby. I was President 2 years ago and got to work with the Athletic Department, coaches and players and got to see what goes behind the scenes on the athletic side of things. If you’re interested in helping out email Daniel Killilea @ ganggreen@uab.edu or hit up our new prez Daniel Pierce. If you just want more info on UAB Athletics with score updates fan Gang Green on fbook
USGAUndergraduate Student Government Association for those that don’t know are the cool kids working behind the scenes to make UAB better for us. The USGA is made up of the Executive Cabinet and The Senate. Have a problem with the way things are run around here? Want to talk to administration members and have your voice heard. This is all you.
There’s a facebook fan page that is regularly updated with opportunities to get involved. Check it- link
Films and Novelties Big shout-out to my boy and fellow writer Adam “Jimi’s cousin” Hendrix here as he is Publicity Chair of the Committee and helps makes some of the coolest events at UAB happen. Everything from the Splatter Dance Party, to free movies on the Green are on the schedule for members of F&N. If you’re interested in getting involved hit up Adam or check out their group page for the list of upcoming movies and events.
Greek Life At UAB we’ve got a growing Greek life and I can honestly say our Greeks kickass. From being involved on campus, to helping out the surrounding Birmingham area to just knowing how to have a good time our Greeks freakin own. (love you guys). For a complete list of Greek Organizations on UAB’s Campus check out this Link.
iloveuab.com Not technically a student organization :p but still an opportunity to get involved with something awesome. Right now we are looking for one more writer for the site. We need someone to cover Birmingham night life. By this I mean someone who’s in with the local Music and Club scene and would be willing to do 1 post a week about the Birmingham music scene, club nightlife and big events. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in just email/message/facebook me.
Our student organizations are why I <3 this school. I've met some of the most passionate, driven people in these groups. These groups sound like your kinda thing? Get off your ass and go get involved!
