Relief Efforts in Haiti – How You Can Help
As you all know, six days ago a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the capitol city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. This earthquake has killed thousands, destroyed lives, and wreaked havoc on an already struggling country. It’s hard to understand why something like this would happen to these people who already have nothing. Some things will never be explained.
In a time like this, you can’t just sit by and watch as everything unfolds, you’ve got to act. There’s a certain commitment that we share as humans to our fellow man. In this case, we’re miles away from our fellow man in Haiti, so how can we help? You can donate money, of course. I know that we’re all broke college students and money is short – but if there was ever a time for goodwill, that time is now.
I’m always a little weary of donating money to various organizations, so I stick to what I know to be worthwhile. I recommend that you donate any money that you can to the Red Cross. You can use their donation form on the website, or you can text HAITI to 90999 – both will give money ($10 if you text) to the Red Cross.
Also, many student organizations have started fund raising efforts on campus, more details can be found in this press release.
