This is a guest post by Carrie Smith, a journlism major at UAB. This may just be her first post, but with her enthusiasm and dedication to UAB, I feel like you’ll be seeing a lot of her on iloveuab.

With the new school year beginning, the UAB Marching Blazers have a head start on boosting blazer spirit around campus. The band has been on campus for the week before school working on their Fall 2011 show. Whether it’s during football games, basketball games or pep rallies the Marching Blazers work hard to make sure that your experience as a Blazer is one that’s full of not only school spirit and pep, but also a few good tunes also.

While the Marching Blazers work hard to make your experience at UAB a great one, you can help their program as well. This hard-working group of musicians, dancers, color-guard and majorettes are currently in the running for the Pepsi Refresh Project. By simply going to www.refresheverything.com/uabmarchingblazers you can help the band win $50,000 to help purchase new instruments, a new parade banner and a 53’ semi trailer to transport instruments to Legion Field and other places the band performs.

The Marching Blazers are currently one of the only collegiate bands in the state that do not have these materials. By simply going to the website you can vote for the idea to benefit the Blazers, as well as other great ideas that will help people all over the country. In order to win, the idea must get in the top 10 ideas in the $50,000 category. The competition ends at the end of August, so in true Blazer fashion go vote for your Marching Blazers so we can once again cheer, GO BLAZERS! GO BLAZERS! WIN FOR UAB!
