It’s Teacher Evaluation Time at UAB!

Ahh, as the end of the semester draws near there is one comforting piece of release that we as students get to partake in: Teacher Evaluations. There is no greater pleasure than tearing into that asshole of a teacher of yours that has tormented you all semester. It sort of leaves you with a warm and fuzzy feeling right before finals. It’s good stuff, and a great stress reliever right when you need it.

Now don’t get me wrong here and think that you (or I) should give bad ratings to a good teacher. Hell no! It’s also really fun to give an amazing teacher some amazing ratings on their evaluation. Who knows to what extent it really effects them, considering the economy and the amount of budget cuts going around, I would imagine it’s a pretty big deal. That being said, take the time to evaluate a teachers performance and attitude when teaching. Do so while also taking into account the amount of effort you put forth in the class. Don’t be that jerk that half assed your way through the semester, only to blame the teacher at the end. I know it’s tempting, but have a backbone, don’t give bad ratings to a good teacher simply because YOU did poorly in their class.

The good ol teacher evaluation form

I don’t really know the point of this article, I just thought I would mention teacher evaluations since I have done one in almost every class. I will give you this tip though, although you probably already know about this site. Head on over to Rate My Professors and rate your professors using their site (if you have ever used their service, you kinda owe it to the next generation). This site is extremely valuable when it comes time to sign up for classes. You can get a much needed “forewarning”  about a professor before you even get to the first day of class. So,  let’s keep it updated for UAB.

Oh yeah, also remember to leave a comment and state whether or not the teacher is hot! Be careful though, I know for a fact that teachers read the reviews about themselves, wouldn’t you?

Teacher evals are something that (except in rare cases) have an effect ~5 years later as they accumulate. Doesn’t mean it won’t affect you. Firing bad teachers and hiring good teachers means that UAB has a better reputation when you graduate, and your degree looks better. If you graduated from a school when it was considered “Tier 3″, and it becomes “Tier 1″ 5 years after you graduate, people still consider your degree “Tier 1″, and the reverse is also true.

  • It is oh so satisfying. This semester I used the evaluation to tell UAB exactly how I felt. And they seemed to have listened.

One bad experience: one of my professors was in the room when we did the old school, paper evaluation. I couldn’t even finish it because I was so uncomfortable.
