InterCulture movie – Afghan Star
Hey, if you’re like me and broke after buying books (I swear, I’m sure nobody but college students fears the words “wrapped in plastic” that much!) you may be interested in this fun, FREE event. The InterCulture Committee is presenting the movie “Afghan Star” for free in the HUC Alumni Auditorium on Sunday, Aug. 23rd at 6 pm.
The movie seems like a blast! Afghan Star is the Afghanistan version of American Idol. After the country that has been war torn for thirty years finally begins to stand on its feet, pop culture is returning to the land. The story is about three women who risk everything they have for the chance to be a pop star.
Plus, did I mention free food? A nice sampling of food from the Middle East and popcorn will be served before and baklava and brownies are planned for those who stay afterwards to discuss.
“Interculture is UAB’s first university-wide multicultural programming committee. Resources are available to educate and encourage cross-cultural interaction among students of all races, nationalities, and ethnic origins. Heritage celebrations are held throughout the year. Past events have included Latin Night, Chinese New Year, Languages of Love, Arabian Night, and Interculture Movies,” said Yih Tsao the coordinator for this event.
Any additional information can be found by contacting Yih at ytsao@uab.edu. Hope to see you there!
