Cute UAB Girl Of The Month: Leen Matalka
It’s everyone’s favorite time of the month! Cute UAB Girl Of The Month time! I do have to admit that I am a little late with this one because I was looking for the perfect someone. I’m really looking for girls who are involved at UAB, somewhat well known, and of course, cute. Which brings us to Leen Matalka.
Name: Leen Matalka
Major: Psychology with Minors in French and Chemistry
School Yr: Senior
Relationship status: I’m flying solo at the moment!
1. Leen, are you involved in any student organizations?
My freshman year I didn’t do much on campus other than going to class! After that I decided to create my college experience by immersing myself in student life on campus. My first involvement was Orientation Leaders. I absolutely loved working with the freshman and educating them about UAB!! I have also been involved with UPC Films and Novelties. We show awesome movies and host cool events. (We are showing I Love You, Man June 17th in Alumni at 8 PM—COME!). I am also involved with Outreach Abroad, a community service organization, whose primary purposes are offering medical missions to developing countries and providing health and medical education to people in each country we visit. I went to Guatemala last year and had the most fulfilling week of my life! In addition, this upcoming year I will be part of Leadership and Service Council and a Resident Assistant.

2. Where are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Amman, Jordan until I was 14 years old. My family then moved to good ol’ Hoover, Alabama and I started high school at Hoover High! Crazy transition but I have accommodated well. The last time I visited was in 2006 for two months. I’m keeping my fingers crossed so I hopefully can go next summer after graduation!!

3. Jon and Kate + 8. Probability that they get divorced. Answer in a percentage. (didn’t expect that one did you?!)
OH, no! Dude, I get upset thinking about it! I actually watch the show. Aiden is my favorite! The kids are way too cute and lovable to go through that mess. Ahh! Well, it seems like Jon wants a divorce because his manliness has been squished way too much thus far. Kate seems to not want a divorce because 8 kids (even though they are adorable) is absolute craziness. Who will win? My guess is Kate. Umm, percentage, 63.27%. Don’t hold me to it though!
4. What’s your favorite place to eat at in Birmingham?
I love sushi. Wherever I can get awesome sushi, I am there. Yumm! If you have any recommendations, let me know…

5. If you were stuck on a deserted island for a month, what three things would you choose to have with you and why?
Me on an island for a month…Uhh, I will need my Bible for a whole month of spiritual growth! I need music, all kinds, Arabic, English, French… It’s either me listening to music or hearing myself sing. Definitely listening to professionals singing is way better. And I need a fabulous smelling shampoo, like Herbal Essence or Pantene Pro-V. When my hair smells good, I feel good! Other than that, I think I will be ready for doing nothing on the island for a whole month.

6. What’s the longest time you have ever stayed up studying for an exam? What exam?
I possessed the talent of staying up all night during high school, but somehow completely lost that talent once I started college! One time before my history final in 10th grade I stayed up all night, not studying for the test, but making stupid note cards. The teacher barely looked at them the next day and then we took the final! The latest I stayed up “studying” during my UAB years was studying for my Physics final. I stayed up till 4 AM and woke up at 6 AM. Didn’t help much!!!

7. Would you rather have the ability to fly or to read people minds? Why?
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No. It’s me flying!! I would love love love to have the ability to fly! That would be awesome. I love to travel so that would help out a lot financially! And then I would do this:
8. How many grilled cheeses have you eaten at The Commons in one sitting?
No Commons grilled cheeses for me! I don’t like cheese; except mozzarella cheese and one kind of Arabic cheese. I’m a picky eater!

Thanks Leen! -Stone

Completely awesome mind, not to mention beauty. She seems like the type to hang out with the guys and not miss a beat. I’m not sure if she could handle the wedowee brood but a great gal nonetheless. Nice pick stone.
