Blazing on the Green Fall Concert featuring Andy Grammer

As I’m sure all of you are aware, the first few weeks of school offer a variety of events and activities for all students as part of “Fire Up for Fall.”  The first day of class is Wednesday, August 15, 2012 but there are plenty of events to enjoy even before classes begin.

On Monday, August 13, all UAB students and the general public are invited to see pop/rock/soul star Andy Grammar for FREE as part of the “Blazing on the Green” fall concert.  UAB student group Festival Expressions will open the show at 7:00 PM.  Grammer will take the stage at approximately 7:50 PM on the UAB Campus Green.  A fireworks show will follow the concert.  The concert is sponsored by the Undergraduate Student Government Association, the UPC Blazer Productions committee, and the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Grammer got his start as a street performer in Santa Monica, California.  In 2011, he was named “An Artist to Watch” by Billboard magazine.  He also performed on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and also on “Live with Regis & Kelly.”  In addition, he has toured with Natasha Bedingfield and Colbie Caillat and shared the stage with Taylor Swift.  He was the first male pop star since Jason Mraz (2003) to reach the Top 5 at Adult Pop Radio with his first single “Keep Your Head Up.”
