Blazers’ Bowl Hopes Disappear with Last Seconds

Blazers’ Bowl Hopes Disappear with Last Seconds

Well people football season has come and gone. It was a year filled with amazing runs by Joe Webb, amazing catches by Frantrell Forrest and amazingly close losses in the final seconds of the game.
As you may remember in the 2nd week of the year UAB lost on a two point conversion with time running out in their game against SMU. Well our team suffered another heart-breaker last Saturday against UCF as they watched their bowl hopes disappear on a 4th and 9 play with :15 left on the game clock. The Blazers finish their season at a 5-7. While this may seem a disappointment to a team who’s goal this year was bowl eligibility and CUSA title remember that two years ago this UAB football squad had a disgusting 2 win season. Last year the Blazers improved to 4 wins and this year to 5. While the squad loses one of its best senior classes ever (Joe Webb, Frantrell Forrest, Jake Seitz etc…) a new upcoming class of underclassmen step up with more talent and more promise than ever.

I believe Callaway has this team headed in the right direction and believe he is trying to build something here. I think UAB took a small step this year towards this direction. I think the pain of losing bowl eligibility hurts so bad because that small step UAB took could have turned into a huge leap. As for football we’ll just have to wait til next year and pray our defense gets better…

For now however, we turn our Blazer heads to basketball where our Men’s squad is quietly tearing it up on the court. The Blazers are currently 6-1 with a one point nailbiter win over MTSU last night.
This Friday is the Gene Bartow classic which puts UAB (Bartow’s brain child) against ETSU (Bartow’s literal child [his sons coaches ETSU]) A portion of the funds from the game will benefit UAB cancer research. So come out, take a break from studying and be a part of what is shaping up to be a very, very special season for our Basketball team.

this is kind of random, but Jake Seitz was my UAB buddy or whatever at orientation.

I hope prayer isn’t the only thing we have to rely on for an improved defense. But good re-cap, CJ.
