Blaze Productions Is Looking For Input!

Hello hello! I don’t know if a lot of people know this or not, but I am the Blaze Productions Chair for the University Programs Council. This means that myself, and my committee get to work with UAB to decide which Music and Comedy acts come to our campus. I’m sure you have enjoyed all the big name class acts that have been brought to UAB in the past! No? Of Course not! The reason for this is because my position and committee are pretty much brand new. There is a huge opportunity here for the UAB community to take part in pioneering an amazing entertainment community that will kick ass for years to come.

If programming for Music and stand up comedy sounds like something you would have fun doing, then you should definitely come to some committee meetings and get involved. The year is pretty much a blank slate as far as both Comedy and Concerts go, which means very soon we will start to fill in the schedule.

Here are somethings you should do if you would like to have a say in who comes to our diverse campus:

  1. Come to our committee meetings that are every Tuesday starting at 7pm this upcoming Tuesday July 7 (Evidently, I was not informed, damn The Man)
  2. Join the Blaze Productions Fan page, and invite your UAB friends.
  3. Follow Blaze Productions on Twitter. I’ll be sure to get back to all @replies.
  4. Befriend me on Facebook.
  5. Send me a message, Twitter me, come to our meetings, make yourself heard!

So far, I have heard many recommendations which include some of the artists below (most all of which fall into our budget):

Girl Talk (One of my personal Favorites at the moment):

Keri Hilson, someone on Twitter was crazy about bringing her:

Puddle of Mudd – Click for Video

Tonic – Click for Video

Kids Got The Disco – You know we’re gunna support our local UAB artists!

I personally would really like to see Sister Hazel come do a show:

Do you have any suggestions?! Let me know in the comments!

I’d love it if we could get Jim Gaffigan to do a comedy show down here. I’ve already seen him do a live show once before and he’s absolutely hilarious! Check out his “Hot Pockets” jokes on YouTube for a sample of his jokes.

There’s an *awesome* local comedy improv troupe – founded by a UAB graduate and employee :)

Wild Sweet Orange at Bartow would be sweet, maybe even something after one of the home basketball games.
