A Message from Your New Gang Green President!

Alright as many of you know Gang Green was my life last year. It was my baby and it was what I poured myself into. So when I stepped down as GG prez at the end of last year I was curious to see who the Athletic Department would get as a replacement. Well needless to say I was pleased with their decision as they chose the one and only Ms. Hannah Letson! (please clap your hands, no seriously clap it’ll make you smile clapping alone)

If you don’t know Hannah she’s a sophomore at UAB, a second generation UAB Blazer and all around busy kinda girl. I asked her to write a short piece for the site about what Gang Green had in store for the upcoming year and she graciously agreed. I mean who wouldn’t wanna write for this awesome site? (hint hint, pop culture writer still needed)

Why, in the world, would the student fan group at UAB, “Gang Green,” pick such a name? A person who is infected with “Gangrene” has gone through a decay of body tissues, turning the infected area a greenish or black color group. I’m sure many of you have gotten raised eyebrows or strange looks when mentioning that you were part of such a group. But it definitely catches one’s attention, that’s for sure. That’s what Gang Green is shooting for in 2010, to catch your attention. Our goal is to provide opportunities for great student support and interaction. We want YOU to be proud to be a UAB Blazer!

If you are a student here at UAB, that means you are NOT a student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Auburn University, or any other school that is not UAB. So, act like it, and show your “Blazer Spirit!”

There’s no reason for you NOT to come support the Blazers! Our men’s basketball team is knocking off ranked teams left and right, our women’s basketball team has been playing well, and the spring sports are right around the corner! Plus, admission is FREE for all students (with ID) to all home games. AND, on top of all that, there are several planned tailgates that Gang Green is sponsoring that have FREE FOOD! Great entertainment, free admission, free food, and if you’re lucky, you might even meet the “Cute UAB Girl of the Month.” What more could you ask for?

With that in mind, here are a few things for you to look forward to this spring semester:

Jan.6 (first day of class)
UAB Men’s Basketball vs. East Carolina
7PM @ Bartow Arena
(Pre-game tailgate starts at 6PM with FREE food!)

Feb. 23
UAB Women’s Softball vs. Alabama
First game at new field! 6:30 PM

Feb. 27
UAB Women’s Basketball vs. Marshall
Pack The House night!
6PM @ Bartow Arena

March 2
Pre-Memphis game campout
Get there early to get a wristband that guarantees you a seat in the student section!

March 3
MEMPHIS GAME!!
6PM @ Bartow Arena

Follow Gang Green on Facebook or on Twitter

O snap! Much love to Hannah and hope to see everyone Wednesday night at the ECU game!
