2010 Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Step Show

This is a guest post by Jazmine K Coffee-Dunning a member of the UAB Black Student Awareness Committee.

Since 1990, the University of Alabama at Birmingham has put on one of the biggest step shows in Alabama, The Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Step Show. This year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary in “Platinum Status.”

This show began as a scholarship fund in memory of the late Camille Y. Armstrong. Camille was a UAB political science senior with a career goal of law. She was tragically killed in an automobile accident on March 11, 1986. Camille was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, served as a UAB Ambassador, and was best described as “a hard working, dedicated student.” The scholarship fund was established in 1987 to honor the memory of Camille and to preserve the spirit of the life she shared with us. In October 1992, the scholarship was endowed, thus ensuring its continuation. The Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Fund benefits deserving undergraduate African-American students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, preferably in the Political Science field.

This year in a new decade we want to celebrate her life and accomplishments by having everyone come out to Bartow Arena on February 6. Doors open at 6 PM and the show starts at 7 PM. Tickets are on sale in the UAB ticket office or online $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show with a student ID. We have all members of the Divine Nine coming out from six schools across three states to give an amazing show. You do not want to miss out. Call (205)934-8020 for more information.
