I must say that I have been pretty bored over the last few weeks. I screwed up and wrecked my car in the middle of finals and that has really put a damper on my Summer activities. I’m stuck in my damn apartment most of the day unless I can find someone who is doing something and is willing to come get me. I have actually wished a few times that June would get here so I could start taking some classes and have something to do (crazy, I know). Then I realized that the Summer has only just begun and there is Tons of fun stuff coming up. Let’s take a look at June:

First things first. Magic City Brewfest! The third annual Magic City Brewfest will be held down at Sloss Furnace on June 5th and 6th. There will be Music, Food, and more importantly, lots and lots of beer! I mean, what better way to celebrate the Free The Hops Bill passing the Senate than heading over to Sloss to sample over 200 specialty beers?! Presell tickets are 22 bucks and can be purchased from Ticketmaster. The ticket gets you a two oz. cup to use for sampling any and all of the 200+ beers there. Fun times. I’ll see you there.

Coming up June 11-14 we have Bonnaroo! WOOOOOOO! I just can’t wait! 4 days of camping and partying out in the sweltering heat! Can it get any better than that?! Headlining this Year is Phish who are doing two performances (Friday and Sunday nights) and Bruce Springsteen is head lining on Saturday night. I’m really excited by Saturday because after Bruce, Nine Inch Nails comes on and does a show until like 3 in the morning. It’s gunna be hella fun.

The next big thing coming up in June is City Stages (June 19,20, and 21) which, thankfully, isn’t on the same weekend as Bonnaroo this year. I hate when that happens. One should not have to choose between Bonnaroo and City Stages. As usual, city stages has a great line up this year. Even better is, you could possibly go for free. I got in contact with the PR guy from City Stages and I have arranged for a little contest that will result in some free City Stages weekend passes for some lucky iloveuab.com readers. Most likely it’s going to be a really cool Birmingham Scavenger Hunt. I have some interesting ideas and am currently recruiting some people to help me design the hunt. More details on the contest to come soon.

Also during the Summer, make sure to enjoy the great American Past time: Drinking. I mean….Baseball! Yes, that’s right, the Birmingham Barons have games all throughout the Summer and of course there are plenty of Thirsty Thursdays to go to! The idea of Thirsty Thursdays is to pay as little as possible for beer. They make it easy for you by only charging $1, but you can cut costs even more if you are a professional Thirsty Thursdayer. By that I mean get there early so you don’t have to pay $3 for parking, and then wonder around the parking lot and find a Hooters girl who is giving away free tickets to the earlier arrivals. Bam, 15 bucks saved! I have this strategy down to an art. My wisdom has now been bestowed to thee. Go forth and enjoy!

There is a ton of fun stuff coming up during this Summer. Beach Trips, River Floats, random road trips, whatever. Just make sure to enjoy yourself! Oh yeah, I almost forgot!
