A new decade is upon us! I, like many, feel that a new year is like a fresh start, and after 2009, I think hitting the “reset” button is in order. But 2009 wasn’t all bad; actually, quite a few things made 2009 awesome (the Obama inauguration, Disney’s return to 2-D animation). Here’re the top ten things I hope is in store for 2010:

10. No surprises when I apply for my degree.

9. LESS SURPRISING CELEBRITY DEATHS! I had just come to terms with Heath Ledger’s death in ’09, then Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Billy Mays, DJ A.M., and MICHAEL JACKSON dying roughly a week after each other almost threw me over the edge this year. It’ll probably take me until the middle of 2010 to actually make myself listen to a Michael Jackson song again, so please, celebrities, LAY OFF DRUGS and don’t die-I need to get my bearings, please.

8. To correctly guess most of the categories during this year’s Oscars.

7. To get on the internet and not see The Princess and the Frog race!fail forum threads. Thankfully, these threads seem to be in the minority, but seriously, as a black American, let me just say that there is no such thing as being “black enough”. The quicker people learn that fact, the quicker we can get beyond many problems in society.

6. To work more with my sister on Aura, UAB’s literary arts magazine.

5. To not use up most of my BlazerBucks on Starbucks.

4. To go to Disney World and meet Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen.

3. See Toy Story 3

2. Whitney Houston and Prince at the Grammys (and, hopefully, a Prince cd that actually resembles his output from the ‘80s)

1. A great final year at UAB and my graduation (Summer ’10!)
