32% Tuition Increase at UCLA Nearly Sparks Riot
Whoa! So I was browsing Digg and Reddit today and I came across this video of students holding a protest at UCLA. Really the protest almost seems more like a riot to me, and to be honest I really don’t blame them for being pissed. It seems that all the commotion started after an announcement was made that tuition will be raised by 32%. Ouch. That’s is a pretty significant hike in costs. The word on the street is that 14 students have been arrested and 1 student has been tazed. It’s getting pretty serious. Check out this video and tell me what you think, it’s pretty intense:
This is why it is so important to, as a student, support things like Alabama higher education day. These tuition hikes that are effecting all University of California campuses are because of lack of state funding. Also, this issue seems miles away in California, but if you don’t believe these types of things could happen right here in Alabama – you may just one day get a rude awakening.
