Thursday Nights Just Got A Whole Lot Nastier (musically speaking of course)

This is a guest post by Kathryn Thagard who you will know as a Cute UAB Girl Of The Month.

The collaborative team of BluPrint is coming back again this month for another party at the M-Lounge. Bluprint first appeared with the birthday slam for DJ Jimi Fritz, and had an attendance of 130 people. Bluprint hopes to match and beat their last attendance record THIS Thursday night in celebration of Spring Break finally arriving after much anticipation.

BluPrint is the collaborative efforts of local Djs Jimi Fritz and DJ Coco, both of whom are have been professional Djs for several years. With bluprint, the two hope to expose people to great music and great art. For the two, it is much more than just putting on an amazing party (who doesn’t love that though), but to help create a community of people who inspire to keep great music and art happening in Birmingham.

In Laymen’s terms Bluprint events are: Good music + Good people = Good times.

But back to the arts…When I interviewed DJ Jimi Fritz, he went on to stress that Bluprint it is not just about the music being played, but the WHOLE experience. They don’t only want it to be an electronic dance party, but include visuals that compliment the music and create a further depth into the event. Also, they want to reach out to the local art community, and promote their work by collaborating with Bluprint to design flyers and t-shirts. When someone comes to a Bluprint event they can expect to find “nasty” dub-step music (in the words of Rob C.), abstract videos playing on the flat screen TVs, and unique flyer designs done by both Rob Clifton and Jimi Fritz.

I am going to sidetrack a little bit and explain what dub-step music is for those of you who are unaware of what it is. Dub-step music originated in London, England back in the early 2000’s. Dub-step came straight out of the U.K. garage and 2-step scene. Producers mix four genres together, and incorporates drums, bass, and reggae dub plates. Bluprint events incorporate a great deal of dub-step music, but it will not be the only type of music played during the events. It will be an incorporation of all types of music that compliments each other, and lightens up the mood.

Ok, now back to Bluprint. The basic idea of Bluprint events sounds familiar, right? Monthly dances party….crazy unfamiliar electronic music…sounds a lot like Kids Got the Disco. Bluprint does not want to compete with the production put on by Kids Got the Disco. Dj Coco and Jimi have previously worked with Kids Got the Disco, and they enjoy the venue and music put on by the events. Bluprint hopes to further the growth of the electronic and art community, but in no way compete with an already well established event. As far as how they differentiate themselves, I’ll quote Dj Coco…

“…Comparing the two is kind of like McDonalds and Burger King, basically they both sell burgers but they don’t taste the same. Think of KGTD as McDonalds and Blüprint as Burger King, they got the Big Mac, we got the Whopper, KGTD “I’m loving’ it,” Blüprint “have it your way” or my favorite “It takes two hands to handle a Whopper.”

So, there you go boys and girls! You have officially received the entire tutorial on Bluprint, and what to expect from attending one of these events. I heavily encourage everyone to come to the event! It will be great experience!

The Spring Break event will be held at the M-Lounge (Mathew’s Bar and Grill). The doors open at 9: 30pm and will go on til 2:30am. The line-up will include Dj Jimi Fritz, Dj Coco, HRom, Ulises, and Chris Watsons. There will be drinks specials for everyone 21 and above. Photography by BRILLANTPHOTOZINE, and video recording by Morgan Anders.

Be there or be square! Hope to see everyone at M-Lounge.

Bluprint is epic. Toga! Toga!, Coco, Fritz, and everyone else dominated two weeks ago, and I am super stoked about this week.
