New Years Eve – Peace out 2009!
Wow, I can’t believe that another year is about to pass us by. 2009 is, and has been, a pretty sweet year. I personally accomplished a lot of goals that I was working on, and I also had some really good luck. That’s kind of what this post is about, we’re going to talk about some New Years “must dos” and we’re going to talk about the future a little bit.
My family has a tradition that we ALWAYS hold true to on New Years day. The main tradition that we keep has to do what we eat on January 1. No matter where I am I always eat Black Eyed Peas, Turnip/Collard Greens, and Ham. I know that a lot of people eat these things on new years, but I know there are a few of you out there who have never heard of this tradition.
I have no idea why, but the whole concept behind this tradition is that the various things you eat/do on New Years day has some affect on the upcoming year (bare with me). First off, the most important thing to me is the Black Eyed Peas which represent good luck. I chow down on two to three helpings of these bad boys. The next thing, the greens, represent Money that you will receive in the upcoming year, I really pile these in too. Lastly, I always eat ham. I really didn’t know the meaning behind this one so I looked it up. It’s kind of odd. Evidently pigs walk forward when they eat, and by eating ham you too will move forward in the upcoming year. Pretty cool. So, now you know the sacred southern traditions of New Years Day. Eat up! You have been warned!
The traditions for New Years Eve are easy, but equally important. For New Years eve you have got to go all out. Get with your best friends and loved ones and party like there is no tomorrow! Make sure to drink plenty of champagne, and most importantly, grab that special someone and make out with them as obscenely as is possible right as the clock strikes 12 Midnight. If you aren’t dating someone, you’re in luck. EVERYONE wants someone to kiss on New Years Eve so, just grab the closest single person and lay the smack down on them! You have like a 50/50 chance of getting slapped, good odds in my opinion.
Lastly, before the year get started good, make sure to write down those New Years Resolutions. You probably won’t hold true to half of them, but if you can make one possible change for the upcoming year, it’s well worth it. Best of luck to everyone in 2010, goodbye 2009!
