New Birmingham TV Show: “View Of The City” – It’s a Shock and Awe Kind of Thing.

This is a guest post by the “View Of The City” crew. I’m really excited about this show and happy to be featuring an article about this interesting concept.

Birmingham can be a fun city in which to live, go to school, and work. It can also drive you bat-poop crazy. “View of the City” can be an outlet for those frustrations, in more ways than one.

“View of the City” is a new Birmingham-based half-hour comedy show airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. on Charter 21. It pokes fun at a wide range of people, places, and current events that any resident of the Magic City would recognize, from former mayor Larry Langford to the infamous Cullman Liquidation ads — and features a number of faces familiar to the UAB campus: students Tollie Jones and Hannah Hughes are both cast members, and marketing major Matt Monte is heading up the show’s ad sales and media relations.

The show’s sketches and interviews are also available online at viewofthecity.net, and that’s where the audience-participation part comes in: Viewers who think they can match VOTC’s comic brilliance are invited to submit their own 60-second videos to the show’s website, and if it’s funny enough, they’ll be invited to present their video on an episode of the show and talk about it. If you don’t think you have the technical chops to compose a video, but work as a waiter or bartender somewhere in the Birmingham area and have a horror story of an all-time awful customer, e-mail your tale to VOTC and they may select it for a “re-enactment” in an upcoming episode.

Side effects of “View of the City” may include elevated heart rate, watery eyes, and laughter resulting in one’s ass falling off. People without senses of humor should not take “View of the City.” For more information, don’t bother consulting a physician, just go to viewofthecity.net or contact Matt Monte at matt@viewofthecity.net.
