Hi, I’m Monique Jones, a senior majoring in journalism and minoring in film. Dare I be presumptuous, but you might recognize my name from the school’s newspaper, Kaleidoscope and the monthly publication Phoenix; about two semesters ago, I was the Editor-in-Chief of both Kaleidoscope and Phoenix (a publication I brought back from its second death in the ’90s). Before I was Editor-in-Chief, I started out as a features writer and features editor.

In addition to writing for iloveuab.com, I run a website called Moniqueblog (mljblog.wordpress.com), which is all about entertainment and pop-culture. If you go there now, you might see a lot of Harry Potter -related posts; I’m a huge fan of the books and movies. Other things I’m a fan of are anime shows and movies (the good ones like Cowboy Bebop, not anything like Yu-Gi-Oh), the original Planet of the Apes series, and Bollywood movies. I’m a movie fan in general, so any good movie is fine with me, as long it’s not torture porn or really cheesy/predictable rom-coms. I’m also a fan of all sorts of music, from J-pop to old-school R&B to Metallica to bossa nova. I’m a 2006 graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts (visual arts major), so big ups to the ASFA alumni at UAB.
