This is a guest post by Kathrine Thagard who you will know as a Cute UAB Girl Of The Month.
The collaborative team of BluPrint is coming back again this month for another party at the M-Lounge. Bluprint first appeared with the birthday slam for DJ Jimi Fritz, and had an attendance of 130 people. Bluprint hopes to match and beat their last attendance record THIS Thursday night in celebration of Spring Break finally arriving after much anticipation.
BluPrint is the collaborative efforts of local Djs Jimi Fritz and DJ Coco, both of whom are have been professional Djs for several years. With bluprint, the two hope to expose people to great music and great art. For the two, it is much more than just putting on an amazing party (who doesn’t love that though), but to help create a community of people who inspire to keep great music and art happening in Birmingham.
In Laymen’s terms Bluprint events are: Good music + Good people = Good times.
But back to the arts…When I interviewed DJ Jimi Fritz, he went on to stress that Bluprint it is not just about the music being played, but the WHOLE experience. They don’t only want it to be an electronic dance party, but include visuals that compliment the music and create a further depth into the event. Also, they want to reach out to the local art community, and promote their work by collaborating with Bluprint to design flyers and t-shirts. When someone comes to a Bluprint event they can expect to find “nasty” dub-step music (in the words of Rob C.), abstract videos playing on the flat screen TVs, and unique flyer designs done by both Rob Clifton and Jimi Fritz.
I am going to sidetrack a little bit and explain what dub-step music is for those of you who are unaware of what it is. Dub-step music originated in London, England back in the early 2000’s. Dub-step came straight out of the U.K. garage and 2-step scene. Producers mix four genres together, and incorporates drums, bass, and reggae dub plates. Bluprint events incorporate a great deal of dub-step music, but it will not be the only type of music played during the events. It will be an incorporation of all types of music that compliments each other, and lightens up the mood.

Do you think UAB President Carol Z Garrison would be cool to hang out with?
Evidently this guy can do hypnosis and mind reading, so hopefully he will do one of those hypnotize-half-the-audience-and-embarrass-them type things.
