Continue UAB Football
UAB students and alums are reacting to news that the UAB football program may not continue after 2016. Former UAB football player Lee Miller started a petition to continue UAB football recently. As of November 26th at 10:30 am, the petition has 4,623 signatures. The goal is to garner 5,000 signatures before the UAB vs. USM game on November 29th. The petition calls for four actions form the university. These actions include:
- Immediately announce that UAB Football will NOT be dropped.
- Immediately begin to negotiate a contract extension for Coach Bill Clark.
- Immediately allow Athletic Director Brian Mackin and Coach Bill Clark to schedule football games beyond 2016.
- Immediately accept help from donors, the City of Birmingham, and other entities to develop capital improvements for UAB Football.
Former players made public their particular concerns to the city council in recent weeks. The players mentioned that UAB football coach Bill Clark’s current contract ends in 2016 and that the school has not scheduled any non-conference games past this date.
